Brandy Hutchinson: Piano, Drum Set, and Marimba
Brandy Hutchinson earned her Bachelor's degree from Portland State University. During her tenure at Portland State, Brandy studied with world-renowned jazz drummer, Alan Jones, and Oregon Symphony percussionist, Joel Bluestone. She also studied pedagogy with Mary Kogen and has trained in Suzuki Method. Brandy has been active in the Portland area as a performer and educator for over 15 years, and has performed at such notable venues as the Portland Jazz Festival, Mt. Hood Jazz Festival, Alberta Rose Theater, Heathman Bar and Grill, and Jimmy Mak's. Past performance credits include work with Clay Giberson, Dan Schulte, Bill Athens, Dave Iula, Hailey Niswanger, Sam Howard, Morgan Grace, and Dan Gaynor.
Brandy's educational background includes work at Ethos, where she developed a curriculum for drum-set. In addition, Brandy taught Ethos students how to play drums and piano, and was an instructor at Ethos' summer camps. Brandy has also been a private instructor and clinician at Forte Music School and Bryant Allard's M.U.S.E. She was also the percussion instructor at the Northwest Academy, where she taught beginning and intermediate percussion class.
Brandy currently tours with Lulu LaFever and the Hot Tamales, and performs by special arrangement with the Quadrophonnes, Super Zietgiest, Rising Violet, and Blues2. She also is co-founder and director of Lair Hill Music, where she currently teaches private piano, drum, and marimba lessons, as well as group classes in percussion.
Marc Hutchinson: Saxophone, Recorder, Flute, and Clarinet
Portland native and Tenor Saxophonist Marc Hutchinson is a graduate of Portland State University with a degree in Jazz Performance. He is a very active member of the Portland music scene and has performed with such notable names as Darrell Grant, Mel Brown, Dan Faenhle, Ron Steen, Bill Beach, Louis Pain, Dan Balmer, Ramsey Embick, Ben Darwish's Commotion, Jujuba, the D.K. Stewart Band, Pepe and the Bottle Blondes, and Rubberneck, as well as with national artists Ingrid Jensen, Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, Jim Black, Don Braden, and Kenny Werner.
Marc can also be found performing regularly with the the Dave Fleschner Band, Dancehall Days, Colin Lake and Wellbottom, the Rocktet, Supraphonics, the JB Allstars, and his own projects, A New Groove, Ouroborus and the Winning Team Band. He has performed at the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival, Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival, Portland Jazz Festival, and Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival. He is a former cruise ship musician, having done stints onboard the Columbia Queen and Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas, where Marc performed 2-3 times daily in the jazz combo and show band.
Educational credits include work at Ethos Inc., where Marc authored Ethos' beginning band curriculum, taught jazz combo, beginning and intermediate bands, recorder classes, percussion, and private lessons on saxophone, recorder, flute, clarinet, trumpet, and piano. In addition, Marc worked for the band programs at Self Enhancement Inc., and Bryant Allard's M.U.S.E. Marc currently runs Lair Hill Music out of his home with Brandy Keehn, where he teaches jazz combo, saxophone, flute, clarinet, recorder. and EWI.
